In order to make photonic crystal fiber used in conventional optical system, the fusionsplicing between PCF and SMF has been paid great attention with the rapidly developing ofthe photonic crystal fiber(PCF).As we all know, direct coupling by mechanical support canalso achieve low loss, but it is only applicable in a laboratory environment, and can not bewidely used in outdoor environment. What’s more, it’s not reliable. And in order to solve theproblems, we can coupling them by fusion splicing. However the unique air holes of PCFmakes it difficult to fusion with SMF. The thesis present changing the fusion parameters offusion splicer to reduce the fusion splicing loss and improve the splicing quality betweenPCF and SMF with ordinary fusion splicer. But a large number of parameter and theinteraction between them make fusion extremely boring. Therefore, we proposed using theorthogonal experiment design to achieve low loss fusion splicing between PCF and SMF. Inthe experiment, we set the parameters as the changing factors, and the fusion quality asresponse.The thesis has completed the matched and mismatched PCF and SMF based onorthogonal experiment design and related data analysis based on statistical methods. As forthe former, we finally get a splice loss of0.49dB, and a loss of1dB for the later from PCF toSMF, and0.5dB from SMF to PCF.
