All optical communication and optical integrated devices are research hotspots all thetime. Electro-optical signal processing can lead to speed bottlenecks in optical switchingnetwork. All-optical signal processing attracts more and more attentions. To prevent trafficcontention in all-optical switching network, optical buffer in an essential technology. Opticalring resonator has been proven an effective and high integration density buffer scheme, andhas been studied in quantity in recent years. In order to improve the density of integration ofthe ring, we need to confine the light more strongly. One way to carry the point is decreasethe bent radius of the ring, which lead to rapidly increase of the loss. The loss limits thedensity of micro ring to further improve. The propose of slot waveguides points out a newdirection for light confinement, and slot waveguides have been widely applied toapplications such as coupler, amplifier and detector. However, there are few studies about theapplication of slot waveguides on optical buffer. This thesis analyzes the principle of slot waveguides confining light and time delaycharacteristics and various performance indicators of micro ring resonators. And weoptimized structure parameters of several kinds of slot waveguides. Then we introduced slotwaveguides to ring resonators, and analyzed the performance of the ring in delay application.According to the simulation results, we think that employing double slot waveguide, theperformance degradation of employing double slot waveguide is greater than theimprovement compared to single slot waveguide. Vertical single slot waveguide is suitablefor the situation that short delay time and low loss are needed. While horizontal single slotwaveguide is suitable for the occasion that long delay time and low requirement of loss areneeded. Dispersion and nonlinear effect should be considered and optimized when the ringresonator is used for optical buffer.
