Diode-pumped solid-state short pulse lasers were widely applied in industrial,medical, communication, due to its advantages such as simplicity, short pulsesduration, high peak power, high beam quality, tenability. As a gain medium, becauseof the advantages such as excellent thermal conductivity, good mechanical propertiesand high damage threshold, garnet has attracted considerable attention. In thisdissertation, by using the fiber-coupled pulse laser-diode (LD) as the pump source andV3+:YAG as saturable absorber, we studied the performance of Q-switched laser withNd:GGG and Nd:LaGGG crystal, respectively. In addition, using semiconductorsaturable absorber mirror (SESAM) as the saturable absorber, we demonstrated thediode-pumped passively Nd:LaGGG and Yb:LuAG mode-locked laser, respectively.The main content of this dissertation includes:1. We introduced the development history and research significance of all solid-statepulse lasers. We introduced the theory of pulse laser, including the principle andimplement method of Q-switched laser, the mechanisms of mode-locking withSESAMs and the dispersion compensation methods.2. We introduced the advantages of garnet and pulsed LD,and the application of1.3-μm lasers. Based on the excellent properties, with V:YAG as the saturableabsorber, we demonstrated Nd:GGG and Nd:LaGGG passively Q-switched laserpumped by pulsed LD, respectively. The maximum output energy of1.4mJ and1.0mJ, pulse width of7.8ns and8.1ns, single pulse energy of127.3μJ and111.1μJ, peak power of11.6kW and10.2kW were obtained, respectively.3.The optical properties and research status of Nd:LaGGG and Yb:LuAG crystalswas introduced. By using a SESAM, the passively mode-locking Nd:LaGGG and Yb:LuAG laser at1.0μm was demonstrated, respectively. The output power of3.2W and1.07W were obtained and the pulse duration was17.25ps and1.03ps,respectively.
