Gears, which have characteristics of great load-bearing capacity, stable and steadytransmission and long lifetime, are important components among mechanicaltransmission. While the accuracy of gears affects some gear transmission performancesuch as working stability and load distribution uniformity. As a result measuring theaccuracy of gears becomes a vital loop of manufacturing industry.Measuring methods of the accuracy of gears can be divided into conventionalcontact measurement and non-contact measurement. The former method is difficult toachieve online real-time measurement. Non-contact measurement based on machinevision technology has the characteristic to get real-time measurement and providesfeedback to processing equipment with measurement parameters, which constitutes theclosed-loop processing system.Based on consulting relevant references and investigation of postgraduate practicebase, aiming at the actual production of the straightening machine aligning gear shaft,the non-contact measurement method that use of structured light to measure gear toothprofile radial runout was put forward. Firstly, through consulting the visionmeasurement theory and technology basis, the video camera imaging calibration modeland the structured light plane calibration model were built. Secondly, according to themodel built in this paper, the video camera image acquisition and calibration, dataprocessing measurement system platform was developed by use of Visual C++. Theplatform was used to control CCD video camera to acquise image, calibratemeasurement system and extract the center of the structured light. Finally, by using thedeveloped platform to measure the gear tooth profile radial runout, namely to acquiseimage of gear tooth profile that irradiation from structured light, the tooth profile atseveral points in the structured light plane were achieved after processing, and geartooth profile radial runout value were obtained. Through gear tooth profile radial runout tester, correctness of the measurement result of structured measurement platform builtin this paper were verified.The developed measurement system platform in this paper has a certain theory valueand pratical significance for online measurement of gear tooth profile radial runout.
