Ultraviolet optical communication (UVC) which uses ultraviolet light as the carrier and free space as transmission medium is a new type of optical wireless communication (OWC) technology. Moreover, as a result of the specialty of solar blind UVC like strong anti-interference ability, low interception rate, low direction differentiation, able to work at all-weather and all-direction via a non-line-of-sight link, and of solar blind UV detection like extremely low background noise, rarely misjudgment, high sensitivity, the solar blind ultraviolet band can be regarded as a supplement to conventional means of communication and detection technology. It has the very high value of research and Application on special occasions, so as to get more and more attention.Some of domestic and foreign research institutes have obtained many achievements. Supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), aiming to improve the performance of the UV detection or communication systems, this paper conducted research on some key techniques that can improve the system’s performance and prototype system design. This paper introduced the research status and existing problems of UV communication and detection, and discussed the differences and characteristics between solar blind UV communication and detection and conventional technology.Combined with theoretical analysis and experimental test, this paper analyzed the transmission characteristics of the UV light in the atmosphere, so as to get the relationship between the propagation loss and transmission distance.In order to improve the performance of the system of UV detection or communication, combined with the experimental test, this paper compared the applicability of several UV source and UV detection device, and then designed and built a UV detection experimental system, completed test ultraviolet detection.Combined with multiple-amplitude theory, this paper proposed a multi input single output (MISO) UVC scheme, and built the experimental prototype system to test. The experimental results show that the scheme could make the communication bit rate doubled.
