As the indispensable strategic infrastructure of national economy and national defense, BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (COMPASS) has been rapidly developed and deployed recent years. Meanwhile, wireless communications services, especially the mobile broadband applications including International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) has been developing rapidly, making its growing demand for spectrum. Then, Spectrum allocation problem is increasingly highlighted. In order to ensure COMPASS for a long time and high precision of the normal operation and to gain a competitive edge in the global navigation positioning service, the coexistence problem between COMPASS and terrestrial commmunitation systems in adjacent band must be fully considered. On that basis, the focus of this paper includes three parts:The theory of inter-system interference including deterministic analysis by link budget and Monte Carlo system-level simulation methods; Coexistence analysis between COMPASS RDSS mobile terminals and TD-LTE system in S band and coexistence analysis between COMPASS earth station and IMT-Advanced system and providing the coexistence conditions and criteria; Modeling and analysis for aggregate interference using two-dimensional Poisson Point Process (PPP) model, and coexistence analysis using stochastic geometry and providing coexistence criteria in different scenarios. In this paper, we investigate the coexistence between COMPASS and IMT systems in S-and C-band basing on the strategic importance and urgent needs for Beidou RDSS system. We also provide some deployment suggestions and supporting policies to gurantee the normal operation of Beidou satellite navigation system. We conclude the paper with summaries and a discussion on future research directions.
