In recent years, image compression coding technology based on fractal theory is developingrapidly. For fractal image compression coding can not only get better image quality, but also hashigh compression ratio and high decoding speed, it becoming a hot spots in the field of imagecompression while the practicability of Fractal Image Coding is restricted because of its longencoding time and complex calculation. This article combined the advantages of discrete cosinetransform and Fractal compression coding, improved of its hybrid coding algorithm, and reducedimage coding time. Main innovation works are as follows:(1) Verified the fractal image coding algorithm can get stable decoded image within about10iterations in basic fractal compression encoding with the test of Lena standard image.(2) Proposed an image compression algorithm based on two-dimension DCT transform. Thealgorithm set the quantization factor to control the size of image compression array while usingDCT algorithm in the part of the image compression. The result of experiment indicated that thisalgorithm can improve the PSNR and the visual quality of image.(3) Discrete cosine transform approximation method in the coding algorithm based on fractaland DCT can find the best parent block by adjusting the gray to make MSE less than allowable error.The results of experiment indicate that this algorithm can improve the quality of image and reducethe coding time.
