Recently,VLC (Visible Light Communication) has been an emerging wireless opticalcommunication technology. LED(Light Emitting Diode)is not only used for lighting but also usedin wireless base stations instead of antenna in the visible light communication system and thecommunication speed is up to several megabits per second. Thus visible light communicationtechnology has broad application prospects. In this paper, the propagation characteristics of visiblelight in indoor complex environment which is the common environment in the visible lightcommunication system are simulated and analyzed using the method of Shooting and bounding raytracing/Image (SBR/Image).(1) The basic theory and advantages of various ray tracing methods are investigated. In thispaper, the necessity and the realization process of shooting and bounding ray tracing/image methodare particularly studied.(2) A good agreement is achieved between the simulated results and the results given inpublished literatures. So the correctness of SBR/Image has been validated.(3) The propagation characteristics of indoor visible light in the typical empty office room aresimulated based on the shooting and bounding ray tracing/image method. A good agreement isachieved between the simulated results of received power and the results given in publishedliteratures. And some propagation parameters are obtained in the simulation, such as the statisticaldistribution of phase angle of received power, RMS (Root Mean Square) delay spread, direction ofarrival, Doppler shift and so on, which are different from the current mobile communication.(4) Moreover, the propagation characteristics of visible light in the typical office andlaboratory which are NLOS (Non Line of Sight) complex environments are simulated. The heightand material of the furniture and the diffraction paths are considered in the simulation. So thefoundation for the wireless network planning and optimization of indoor visible lightcommunication system in the actual indoor environment is provided by the analysis of the aboveresults.
