With the coming of information ages and the rapid development of Internet technology, people pay more attention to the communication with high capacity and high flexibility. The field of network communication want to develop a new generation network of lowcost, high flexibility, high reliability. And the network can achieve a sustainabledevelopment. The next generation CDC-less(Colorless, Directionless, Contentionless)ROADM(Reconfigurable Optical Add-drop Multiplexer) can realize this idea. So theapplication of EDFA Array(Erbium-doped Optical Fiber Amplifer Array) for CDC-lessROADM is extremely urgent.First, this paper researches the basic principles, the common theoretical models and thebasic composition and basic control methods of the EDFA(Erbium-doped Optical FiberAmplifer). So the general design idea of EDFAArray can be clearer.Considering the control structure, transient performance, maximum output power, reliability, power consumption, size and other factors, this design chose a independentcontrol method with dual-core pumps for EDFA Array. Its circuit control structure containsMCU and FPGA. The structure can make the development process of EDFA Array simplerand its performance better. Then this paper introduces a low-power control algorithm toreduce the power consumption of EDFAArray.EDFA Array application environment requires a good transient performance. So thispaper introduces a over-regulation control algorithm in the combined feedforward andfeedback control structure. Finally, with the performance test this paper confirmed this design of EDFA Array forCDC-less ROADM can work in a reliable and high performance condition. And thetransient performance of this design is much better than other similar design.
