As the increasing demand for high data rates and user experience, mobile communication technology develops further with short update time. HSPA+has been introduced as an import improvement of WCDMA system. HSPA+has some important technologies, such as MIMO, high order modulation, multi-carrier technology, the heterogeneous network, etc, which all improve the system performance. In Release11,the heterogeneous network has been introduced, and of course it will improve the system capacity and coverage further. Also, the user capacity would be improved. The traditional homogeneous network deployment is based on the position of pre-planned cell sites (Macro cells). With the growing demand for data services, the traditional cells have been unable to meet the needs of users. So we need to deploy some low power nodes in the current network to ensure the users’ performance. We refer the networks which deploys both the Macro nodes and the low power nodes as the heterogeneous networks (HetNet). The introduction of Hetnet aims at solving the problems of both hotspot and blind spots which can improve the system performance at these regions and can enhance the user experience.The main content of this contribution is to explore the key technology of hetnet in HSPA+networks aiming at further optimization of the system performance. We got some data through the system-level simulation of key technology in hetnet, and make analysis of the simulation results. Begin with the background of hetnet technology, including the evolution of HSPA+and the key technology in the system, and then we introduce several basic conception of hetnet containing the background and the existing technology. Further, we make some analysis for the interference problems in hetnet, including the sources of interference and the interference coordination schemes. Chapter IV and Chapter V describe the specific deployment scenarios and handover problems of heterogeneous networks in HSPA+system and then give some interference coordination schemes. According to the analysis of system-level simulation results, we can get the optimization of system performance by the hetnet technology. Finally, we make a discussion and analysis for the future evolution of heterogeneous networks.
