As the basis of wireless communication, the wireless channel directly affects the performance of the wireless communication system. With the development of long term evolution (LTE) and60GHz millimeter-wave communication technology, two-dimensional (2D) channel model can hardly meet the request for the simulation of wireless communication technology. As a deterministic channel modeling method, ray tracing technology could not only predict the signal level, but also get the amplitude of each multipath component, time delay and angle of arrival and other information, which derives the channel time dispersion or channel impulse response. We can get the3D channel model for different scenes by using the three-dimensional (3D) ray tracing technology, and extract the corresponding statistical channel model parameters, which can be used to propose and improve the new3D channel model. Therefore, in this paper, we mainly studies and summarizes the theories of3D ray tracing technology, and build an adaptive3D ray tracing simulation platform. Some simulation results of indoor scenario channel are obtained from the ray tracing simulator, and the results are also compared to other channel model. Besides, some research and simulation about the channel characteristics and outdoor deployment of60GHz millimeter wave has also been done with the3D ray tracing platform. The simulation result indicates that, compared to Spatial Channel Model Extension (SCME), the3D ray tracing can give a more accurate channel model. And the60GHz millimeter wave wireless channel modeling results can also meet the standardized channel model.
