With the popularity of electronic tags in daily life, the surface quality of electronic tags attracts much attention, more elaborate surface is desired and higher making speed is also a must. Traditionally, surface quality is detected by human eyes, and such method is highly subjective, not to mention the detection speed and accuracy, which apparently cannot meet the requirements of modern industrial production. Therefore, the automation of surface quality detection via machine vision and image processing is the right solution. Some products have already incorporated such solution. After investigating the related techniques of surface quality detection for electronic tags, we built the surface quality detection system for electronic tags which employed the techniques of machine vision and image processing. The system is composed of the image collecting and lighting subsystem, which uses CCD camera to collect the images of electronic tags and applies geometry for fast image matching with the standard temple. The system functions to decide whether printing quality is qualified or not. The experiments show that our system is very effective for real-time electronic tags printing quality detection.
