Maritime shipping occupies a very important position in the national economy production. However, the ship collision occurrs frequently in maritime shipping which causes a tremendous loss of life and property. In order to avoid collision,using different marine radars in the ship increasingly dependent on a variety of marine radar. As an important part of the radar, the antenna has a direct impact. Therefore, the study of marine radar antenna has a great significance. Nanjing Chai Xin of Electronic Science and Technology Co. Ltd. entrusted Dalian Maritime University to manufacture a marine radar antenna, the author involves in this project, this paper is based on the summary of research results.Traditional marine radar antenna includes parabolic and waveguide slot type. Parabolic antenna has a large size and bulky, and waveguide slot antenna has the relatively high cost. Radar antenna of microstrip structure has the advantages of low cost, small volume, wide application prospect.According to the theory of microstrip antenna and antenna array, the author designed two kinds of marine radar antennas.The main work is as follows:(1) According to the marine radar technology index, the author designed a24units X band horizontal polarization microstrip antenna array. Unit antenna is fed in side, and parallel fed mode is used in array. The antenna pattern using Chebyshev polynomials realizes narrow beamwidth and low side-lobe level requirements of the directivity.(2) Consideration of the ability of anti-fog and anti-interference, the author also designed a20units circular polarization radar antenna array. Unit antenna produces circularly polarization wave by the corner feeding. By using series fed mod, a narrow beamwidth and low side-lobe circularly polarization radar antenna are realized at last.(3) Open fan-shaped metal horn is added on both sides in the antenna to reduce vertical beamwidth of the antenna array by simulation and optimization of metal horn in size and angle, improving the gain of the antenna at the same time.Two kinds of antennas are made by engraving were tested at last in microwave darkroom, the test results are in agreement with the expected design index, so the two kinds of the antennas can be applied in marine radar system.
