During the last few decades, the scale of the network maintains a raipid growth with the development of Internet. Up to now, only a single network which makes up the Internet contains tens of thousands of nodes, andthere are already hundreds of millions of computers in the Internet. On the one hand more users lead to the depletion of Internet address resource, Although NAT technology have greatly eased the lack of IPv4addresses, but the limited Internet address resources still cannot afford the increasing number of devices. Amid such a situation, the anticipated challenge of the future is so tremendous that there is a vastly increased need for the transition from IPv4to IPv6.. IP protocol which is in the network center position plays a vital rule. Either the application or the routing protocols stack is required to support IPv6. Any lag of the update, can effect the whole transition process to IPv6of the Internet. So, it is important to development a routing protocol stack which can support the smooth transition from IPv4to IPv6. As we know, the OSPF as an intra-area routing protocol has been widely applid. So it has great significance and is attractive to research the transmission to IPv6of OSPF. On the other hand with information is bigger and new internet business the performance of the processor demand increases. So in the network have the ability to support64-bit processing of OSPF routing protocol will become a trend. In this paper, the research is based on the32bit VxWorks operating system in our laband cooperates with Beijing TianRongXin Company. W e proposed a design meathod and realized the transimission of the IPv6routing protocol stack in the NGTOS security operation system based on the IA64hardware architecture, the mainly research includes:design of the OSPF routing protocol according to the new64-bit system architecture, the64-bit system kernel communication interaction, the development of the routing configuration system interface, realization of making the NGTOS platform as a64-bit security gateway platform with the OSPF routing functions. The remainder of this paper is organized as follows:Section1gives a general description of the research background and the significance of OSPF technology, introduces some different processor platforms and the purpose of choosing IA64platform in this paper.Section2briefly introduces the basic knowledge and principle of OSPF protocol, such as the routing hierarchical concept, designated router elections, network type, packet type and interactive process. Section3addresses the IA64platform application development process and its main characteristics. According to the basic characteristics of IA64platform, design the system model of OSPF protocol stack. For the sake of analysis, we divide OSPF protocol into modules according to its function, and each module is described in detail about the implementation and process. Section4presents the test result of the OSPF protocol stack realized in the IA64platform, including the command interface and protocol conformance test, and according to the IPv4/IPv6respectively in both cases the OSPF protocol to the functionality of detailed tests and the results are analyzed. The test results show that the proposed design in the64-bit system platform runs well, and successfully achieves the main routing function defined by OSPFv2/v3protocol. At present, TianRongXin Company is actively promoting the industrialization of the system, enrich its existing network products. It is expected to create greater economic benefits in the future.
