In recent years, there has been a wide variety of new services and applications on the Internet. One of them is multimedia applications, such as remote video conferencing, IPTV, Internet broadcasting, which require high bandwidth. If used point to point communication mode to implement them, it would cause a sharp increase in bandwidth and lead to network congestion problems. The multicast technology can solve this problem. On the other hand, Software-Defined Network architecture is now been extensively studied. Compared to Internet, its architecture model which characterized in the separation of control and forwarding has many advantages.This thesis relies on the863project, called "Innovation Network Architecture for Triple Play". In order to meet the needs of cable television network in Triple Play, this thesis proposes a design and implementation of multicast on SDN/OpenFlow platform. This proposal is based on SDN-Infrastructure for diverse network services and applications and is implemented by multicast group membership management and multicast routing algorithm. After that, a IPTV service based on IPv6multicast is deployed on the prototype system.This thesis first introduces some concepts about SDN, including related background, SDN/OpenFlow technology, the principal and theory of traditional multicast technology, then presents the overall design of multicast network control system architecture based on SDN. This part clarify the target of the system’s design, the basis of SDN-Infrastructure for diverse network services and applications and so on. And next part is the detailed design and implementation of the multicast system on SDN, which introduces details about modules in the system and relations among them. After that, the thesis do some tests for the system to verify the prototype. The last part concludes the thesis, points out some defects and deficiencies and provides some preliminary schemes to solve them.
