With the deep research of surface plasmon waveguides, the transmission loss of the waveguides gradually emerges. In order to solve the problem, a loss compensation technique for surface plasmon waveguides was proposed. The specific loss compensaion method for surface plasmon waveguides can expand the waveguide transmission applications and solve the problem of the loss of optics. The loss compensation technology for surface plasmon waveguides and low polarization-dependent characteristics of the waveguide were combined to achieve a comprehensive technique. After discussion on the loss compensation effect of TM and TE modes and materials of high and low refractive index, the two-dimensional modeling analysis would sacrifice other properties of the waveguide (mode field, for example) to achieve loss compensation of surface plasmon waveguides. By adjusting the waveguide structure, this problem can be solved. On the basis of the study above, the same loss compensation method to study the loss compensation properties of SIMS waveguide was obtained by adding the gain materials and regulating the waveguide structure. On the basis of the general waveguide loss-compensated technology for metamaterials was studied. Because of its special structure this materials can achieve the effect of gain compensation. By establishing a three-dimensional model and computational analysis, the transmission spectrum, the reflection spectrum and other parameters of the three-dimensional transmission system at different wavelengths, incident angle and azimuth angle were calculated to solve the polarization problem of metamaterials. Because of the complexity and huge computational data of the three-dimensional model, the metamaterial model needs further study. The research has the following advantages:1.loss compensation method is simple. The first part mainly added gain layer based on the original model and the compensation effect of the second part came from the special structure of metamaterial;2.data processing can be carried out directly in the professional software. Inadequate:loss compensation methods don’t have the diversity; data processing workload is not enough.
