Forrest scene is an important part of the natural system. The simulation of forest scene a research hotspot in the field of virtual reality. The composition of forest scene is very complex, which comprises a large number of trees, sky scene etc. The structure of the tree model is also very complex so that its flickering effect in the wind is complex too. This involves the physical and mechanical systems and aerodynamics knowledge. It is very difficult to get an accurate and real-time simulation. In this paper, the main research about forest scene is as follow:Firstly, this paper took a hybrid modeling method which approach combining geometric modeling and image modeling. Besides, a hierarchical process be used for tree structure in this thesis. We use geometry modeling method to create the branches of tree to achieve the dynamic simulation, and image modeling method to create leafage of tree. On the basis of the above, we achieved three different levels of detail model.Secondly, in this paper, a three-dimensional modeling method of wind field model which is based on the terrain scene is presented. This method obtain real-time wind magnitude and direction at every location of the scene according to the scene terrain and wind input. This method can greatly improve the efficiency of the scene, as a result of upfront modeling method.Next, the cantilever beam model is used to simulate the dynamic branches swaying effect in this paper. The fidelity of the deformation simulation of trees is improved by using parameter modification function of tree model internal deformation simulation model. The tree deformation calculation performed in the shader. It makes full use of efficient computational efficiency of the CPU. This is lay the foundation for the entire scene rendering.Finally, a real-time dynamic simulation of large-scale forest scene is achieved in this paper. In this paper, the development of system based on OSG. We add the scene roaming, man-machine interaction and some other scene elements in the system. We achieve some special effects rendering like scene river, sky and so on. In this paper, the frustum clipping technology, LOD technology, multi-threaded rendering technology are used to optimize the rendering large scene. In this paper, the minimum frame rate of forest scene in29.96fps. It can satisfy the needs of consumer on the scene rendering.
