With the development of the consumer market, the advance of wireless communication technology is promoted by the urgent demand for application of wireless transmission of HD (high-definition) video. Hence, uncompressed HD video transmission via wireless personal area networks (WPAN) is a promising application. The data rate of IEEE802.11n protocol theoretical peak rates of up to600Mbps is far difficult to meet the requirements of uncompressed HD video transmission at1Gbps-3Gbps rates.60GHz millimeter wave communication, which has continuous7GHz of unlicensed spectrum, is the inevitable choice for transmission of uncompressed HD video transmission applications.In this paper, our mainly researches are on two aspects:UEP (Unequal Error Protection) and cross-layer optimization design. Firstly, according to the characteristics of uncompressed HD video and different components’effects on human eye, we propose a four levels UEP mode and improve an uncompressed video distortion algorithm. The effectiveness of multilevel UEP scheme on the physical layer is also verified by MATLAB simulation at60GHz wireless transmission systems. Furthermore, an adaptive UEP mode selection strategy based on multilevel partition is also proposed in order to achieve better video quality and higher transmission efficiency. Secondly, in consideration of the features of delay sensitivity and60GHz wireless channel on video transmission system, we propose a cross-layer optimization strategy, which take both the UEP scheme on MAC by ARQ mechanism design and PHY by MCS selection into account. In our cross-layer optimization strategy, each layer transmission scheme is dynamically adjusted according to the state of radio channel, so as to achieve the best reconstructed video quality.
