In recent years, as the rapid development of computer science and geographic information system and increasing requirements of mobile location services, wireless location technology has gained widely attention of people in the world. Many colleges, research institutes and telecommunication corporations have done plenty of research in this area. The important role which location services have played in areas of emergency, network resource optimization and intelligent transportation has promoted the development of wireless location technology. The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) promulgated the E-911regulations to set the requirements of positioning accuracy.This thesis has studied fundamental, environment, advantages and disadvantages of positioning methods of cellular network. A database correlation method based on data from Abis interface is given by this thesis. The database correlation method has high positioning accuracy, and does not need to transform the original network structure and the mobile terminal.The positioning system will not find matching data in the database to positioning if too few sample data is stored in the database. Propagation model method and enhanced CELL-ID+TA method have been cheese to be the alternative methods.There are three parts in database correlation method:the foundation of signal database, the data matching and the positioning estimation. Matching and estimation algorithm based on Minkowski equations, probability density, Bayesian estimation and K-means clustering algorithm can be used when database correlation method is selected to positioning.Finally, this thesis has presented error statistics and positioning results of database correlation method and alternative methods, analyzed the causes of error and proposed suggestions of improvement.We don’t need to alter mobile stations and the structure of GSM network when database correlation method is used. The experimental investigation proves that database correlation method performs better than other positioning methods and gets less negative effect of multipath propagation and NLOS, It can meet the requirements of positioning accuracy and has broad prospects for development.
