With the widespread popularity of service-oriented architecture, more and more people starts to use web services to manage their existing resources and interfaces. Putting atom services together, much more complex processes could be generated, thus to model the real world more precisely. As the complexity of business processes keeps increasing, how to improve the flexibility of business processes in order to deal with the ever-changing requirements? This is a big challenge for both business personnel and developers. This paper first introduces the background knowledge of research and describes the importance and purpose of context-aware processes. Then we proposed the rule-based BPEL process adaptation research.Secondly, based on the analysis of existing district heating alarm system, in the scene of BPEL process adaptation research, this paper makes clear of the functional requirements of the new rule-based district heating alarm system. Key issues of implementing this system are discussed and analyzed, and the proper solutions are demonstrated. After that, with the key issues solved, this paper describes the design and implementation of rule-based district heating alarm system in detail. The system utilized a hierarchical architecture, divided into four layers: the complex event layer, the publish/subscribe message bus layer, the alarm execution layer and the UI layer. For the various components in these layers, an explicit illustration is given using flow charts and interactive charts. Then, based on the analysis of the changes in environment, this pater describes the plans for dynamic changes in the rule based district heating alarm system. Finally, when the system is successfully implemented, it went through a series of tests concerning both its functionality and performance. Test results indicate that the alarm system works well both in normal mode and failure mode, and it is capable of handing the workload in product environment. In the end, the author summarizes the work during postgraduate career, and noted some of the aspects that the next version alarm systems needs to improve.
