With the rapid development of communication technology, more and more user terminal is equipped with multiple network interfaces capable of accessing a plurality of different networks, such as GSM,3G, WLAN, LTE, etc., which enables the terminal to use a number of transmission path becomes possible. What’s more, with the rapid development of network applications, there are more and more high bandwidth demand services such as HD video applications, video conferencing, etc., which leads to the traditional single-path transmission increasingly difficult to meet the growing customer demand for transport services, which makes the potential of multi-path transmission in the pipeline. To take full advantage of multi-path transmission of idle resources on the network, the parallel transmission on multiple paths can improve the overall throughput of end to end transmission, improving the utilization of the network. Furthermore, in the case of a failure on one path, multipath transmission can continue the communication session without interrupt, thereby improving the flexibility of network transmission. However, there are also serious problem on multipath transmission due to the performance differences on sub-flows, which will lead plenty of data packets out of order, resulting in lots of retransmission and buffer blocking on the receiving end. Thus it will severely inhibit transmission throughput. In addition, when several multi-path transmission sub-flow compete with single path transmission on the shared bottlenecks link, because multi-path transmission uses several sub-flows compete with single path transmission, which leads the multipath transmission occupying the bandwidth of single transmission, resulting in an unfair allocation of bandwidth resources.To solve the questions motioned above, we do the related research. This paper first introduces the basic control system of multipath transmission protocol, the main problem of multipath transmission and multipath transmission control method; secondly, it introduced the competition mechanism of multi-path transmission model and multi-path transmission with single path transmission on the shared bottleneck bandwidth. What’s more, we designed a critical max method to solve the multi-path transmission and distribution of single-path transmission unfair bandwidth issues at the bottleneck bandwidth; thirdly, we designed the method and the main function module under Linux host environments; finally, we build a simulation environment and do the performance testing. The experimental results show that this method can improve the transmission throughput and enables the transmission path and single path is much fairer on the shared bottleneck, reflecting the feasibility and effectiveness of this method.
