The network coding is a major breakthrough of network communications research in the21st century. Network coding is based on the traditional route, it allows the nodes to mix the information together to increase the amount of information in a single transmission and improve the throughput and the content distribution and other scalability and efficiency. Network coding has a significant impact on the design and management of networks. It can be widely applied in Ad hoc networks, sensor networks. P2P content distribution, distributed file storage, network security and other fields. After years of development, the research of network coding has made great progress in theory. It has become a fusion multidisciplinary of information theory, algebra, cam, network flow theory and optimization theory.There are some problems in the network coding techniques. First, the major research is focused on the way to increase the coding opportunities or choose as many coding nodes as possible. But the nodes are always not the optimal nodes. If there are many packets, it will cause network congestion and other problems. Second, the network coding requires encoded packets as many as possible, but the limited data processing capacity makes it hard in a single node. This paper focuses on the application of network coding in wireless networks and the goal is to improve the throughput and transmission effectiveness of wireless networks. This paper is based on the shortages of wireless mesh networks, introduces the concept of network coding, the basic construction method, the design of practical network coding. Then1introduce the opportunistic network coding routing protocol COPE (complete opportunity encoding) in details, study the advantages and disadvantages of COPE, compare the performance of ordinary protocol and COPE. The simulation results show that the COPE can improve the performance of wireless network, but it does have shortcomings and deficiencies. This paper studies the route optimization, and designs a new criterion and routing metrics LQ. The simulation results show that the new algorithm compared with the shortest path routing metrics scheme COPE can effectively improve the performance of wireless networks.
