Limited energy is an important factor in wireless sensor networks designcomparing traditional network design. There has been great progress on theenergy-efficient wireless sensor network, such as in hardware design, communicationprotocol and upper application. However, the irreplaceable energy supply hasseriously limited wireless sensor networks application. Fortunately, energy harvestingtechnology can provide energy to the sensor node from the surrounding, such as solar, wind, water and thermal energy it presents a new opportunity for the wireless sensornetwork, especially for applications that require sensors to be installed for longduration embedded in structures where battery replacement is impractical.Harvesting energy not only brings potential for the application of wireless sensornetwork, but also brings great challenges for the transmission mechanism. Theuncertainty of environment and randomness of harvested energy are key points inenergy harvesting wireless sensor network optimization. An optimal transmissionscheduling is studied on energy harvesting wireless sensor node. The main work andinnovations are as following:Firstly, the characteristics of energy harvesting wireless sensor network issummarized, as well as the problems faced by the data transmission.Secondly, the characteristics of energy arrived and data transmission areanalyzed for the energy harvesting wireless sensor node. An optimal data transmissionmodel to maximizing the data delivered during a defined time period is established. The internal penalty function method is applied to solve the global optimizationproblem. For different energy arrived situation, we formulated the corresponding datatransmission strategy.Thirdly, Simulation results show that the proposed optimal scheduling canenergy-efficient with the goal to maximizing data delivered before the deadline. Theperformance of the optimal mechanism is studied with variance of energy harvestedand transmission time lasted.
