With the rapid increase of contents and content-oriented applications, thetraditional end-to-end communication model can’t satisfy the demand for large-scalecontent distribution. A new network architecture, Information-Centric Networks (ICN)is proposed to solve the problem. ICN uses end-to-network communication model basedon content names. Content in ICN is uniquely named and content-routers can route andforward packets based on content names. In-network caching is used in ICN.In-network caching is an important issue in ICN, since the caching strategy hasgreat impact on network performance. Most schemes proposed now design algorithmsfor single routers, so redundancies still exist and network performance is limited. In thispaper, we propose the content-hierarchical Intra-Domain Cooperative Caching (IDCC)scheme to solve the problem, based on the observation that the time of access contentswithin the local AS is much shorter than that of access contents outside. We useprobabilistic caching based on inlet traffic speed, and avoid unnecessary replicas byintra-domain cooperation based on content advertisements. We use hierarchical cachingbased on content popularity to improve the performance. We evaluate our scheme withsimulations. The results show that IDCC can improve the hit ratio by1.7times and1.1times compared to two common existing schemes CE and proCache, respectively. For the problem of ICN compatibility and deployment in the tradition Internet,we design and implement a content router named SIONA, which is based on the idea ofICN and can be deployed in the existing network. We evaluate the correctness andfeasibility of SIONA. The results show that SIONA can work in the existing networkand can improve performance.
