Haptics is an important method of acquiring information for humanbeings. The haptic information technology is being used in many areas, such as haptic feedback, virtual reality, bionic limbs, remote control and soon. Haptic information can’t be convey to human from the environmentwithout haptic system, which includes haptic sensing, informationclassification, and haptic rendering. Haptic sensor is mainly used forsensing environment information, while vibrotactile sensation is a methodof haptic rendering accepted by most people. In this work, based on thesetwo aspects, design and mechanism of vibroatctile system through a novelbionic sensor is introduced.Firstly, by analyzing the characteristics and deficiency of currenthaptic sensors, the design principle of a novel haptic sensor based onhydraulic pressure is introduced. Then the structure and electric system iscompleted, and some signal tests are conducted to verify this haptic sensorthrough the signal acquiring platform. The haptic sensor acquires information and then vibrotactile stimuli isresponsible for haptic rendering. However, the coding method of vibrationwave and evaluation of human sensory are two difficult problems. Underthe analysis of vibrotactile physiology and mechanoreceptors, themechanical model of finger is created. Then with the application ofsandpaper roughness as haptic evaluation standards, vibrotactileparameters are calculated by modeling the process of finger sliding onsandpaper. At last, comparison test of roughness and vibrotactile sensationis conducted and analyzed. Finally, a material recognition strategy is proposed by usingvibrotactile system.
