Due to the continuous development of the modern library cause, in order to meetthe demand of its development, international federation of library associations (IFLA)arises at the historic moment, it was founded in1927, it’s a non-governmentalinternational professional organization, and it contacts the library society from allcountries together into a relational structure network. Since the date of IFLA’sfounding, it has been committed to the development of library cause, in addition toinitiate various organizations and activities, IFLA also held its general conferenceonce a year to provide a platform for personage inbounds to academic exchange andexplore the library science problems that world libraries are interested in, this activityprovides a channel for foreign library cause to get mutual understanding, mutuallearning and mutual cooperation to each other, and improved the level of developmentof global library cause directly.China has been actively participate in IFLA’s activities, over the years,IFLA promotes the development of Chinese library cause, at the same time,Chinese library cause also made due contribution to the development of global librarycause. At present, the study of IFLA by scholars at home and abroad is relatively more,they also have different priorities, especially the foreign library science give a highdegree of attention to IFLA, but China as one of the initiators of the establishmentof the IFLA, many content of research on IFLA by domestic scholars are justobjective overview of the situation and issues of IFLA general conference, or analyzesome enlightenment brought by a session of the conference theme. Therefore, it’snecessary to have a systematic, comprehensive and in-depth analysis to all thesections of the conference theme, and through this process we can sum up thedevelopment trend of Chinese and foreign library science, it has profound practicalsignificance.This article is divided into five parts to this topic for a systematic research. Thefirst part put forward the research background and significance, expounded theresearch status of this subject at home and abroad, and introduced the researchmethods, innovations and expected shortage in this paper. The second partsummarizes the overall situation of the international federation of library associationssystematically and comprehensively, as well as the situation of annual IFLA general conference.
