Since the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) first approved rules for the commercial use of Ultra-WideBand (UWB) within the band of3.1-10.6GHz in2002, the UWB technology breaks the limitations in the application of military communications. As a significant component of wireless communication system, antenna has very important influence on the whole system, and so for the development of UWB systems, the research of UWB antennas has the extremely vital significance. Due to the interference from other applications work on the UWB band, it is necessary to design the UWB antennas with band-notched characteristics.Firstly, this thesis introduces the development of UWB antennas and UWB antennas with band-notched characteristics, the fast acquisition technology at home and abroad. Secondly, a dual band-notched Ultra Wide Band (UWB) antenna is presented to avoid the interference of service that work in the UWB band such as WiMax and WLAN applications. Thirdly, a triple band-notched UltraWide Band (UWB) antenna is presented to avoid the interference of service that work in the UWB band such as WiMax, WLAN and downlink of X-band satellites. The methods which achieve the controllable characteristics also make the band-notched characteristics better. The dual band-notched characteristics are achieved by employing an arc H-shaped slot on the radiating patch and etching a couple of L-shaped slots on the ground plane. The parametric study of the arc H-shaped slot shows that this structure enables centre frequency of notched band to be conveniently tuned. The methods which use arc-shaped stubs as switches not only achieve the controllable characteristics, but also make the band-notched characteristics better. Simulated and measured results show that the proposed antennas provide excellent band-notched function on the rejectband and have nearly omnidirectional radiation patterns on the passband.
