With the development of society and the increasing number of vehicles, safety andquality of communications vehicles on the road attract more and more persons’ attention. Aspecial study of wireless sensor networks are becoming a study hot, car Ad-hoc Network(Vehicular Ad hoc Network, VANET). Many studies have made thought from a mobile ad hocnetwork (Mobile Ad Hoc Network, MANET) convert directly to Intelligent TransportationSystems ITS (Intelligent Transportation System). However, in fact VANET network has itsown unique character, it faces many study challenge. Intelligent Transportation vehicle facingpoor network resources, such as the outer network Internet,3G or4G resources are relativelyabundant. So the integration between the different network architectures into a direction ofresearch, full of potential, and it is worthwhile to study, many research on fusion methodshave been proposed by the positive research institutions, industrial companies, governmentdepartments, but not yet in-depth study on the whole, less research. Thus, this paper studies3G interconnection of heterogeneous networks with VANET this as a representative toanalyze integration between different network and VANET.Firstly, This paper describes the research VANET interconnection with other networks, including the process of the development on VANET, features, applications, and theintegration of existing technologies. Because for the network’s base station or other roadsideunits, if All vehicles while they communicate with them, their network load will becomelarge, then bring more delay, more collisions, and affect the quality of service QoS. So forheterogeneous interconnect, gateway must be selected as a representative of VANET, andconclude required the quality of the gateway.Secondly, we propose a gateway discovery algorithm, and the algorithm is given in twolimiting conditions. Based on position, speed, signal strength, we get two related design andmigration gateway election algorithm LAPGD (Location-Aided and Prompt GatewayDiscovery mechanism) and LDHT (Low Delay and High Throughput), the former is mainly tosolve network delay by setting a predetermined threshold to limit the delay time and changingthe related factor. The latter is to achieve high throughput, low latency as considerations topropose appropriate gateway elections and migration.Again, because the car has a characteristics of high-speed, network topology will be frequently updated. In order to reduce the impact of dynamic changes, this paper presents thatdynamic gateway communications equipment should dynamically adjust communication’sradius, and then calculate the optimal number of nodes that gateway can cover. Then through experiment simulation system analysis, two algorithms are proposed tosatisfy the goal that each gateway who sends a request for a service can find a gateway, butalso are guaranteed to meet the low-latency, low overhead and high throughput requirements. So the algorithm is more efficient and suitable for VANET communication between thecommunication network and the heterogeneous other VANET network integration. Finally, summary unfinished work and defects, and then guide direction of research and workto make a plan for the future.
