Welding is one of important of modern manufacturing technologies and is used widely in various fields. Compared with the traditional manual welding, welding robot has a considerable advantage in efficiency, stability, the cost and working environment. In this paper, we concentrate on the research of welding robot, and then design and manufacture the prototype of welding robot ontology. The following aspects of work were completed:Firstly, based on merits of the same type welding robot at home and abroad and according to the design requirements and design theory of robot, it introduces design scheme of welding robot from the aspects of technical parameters, structural style, drive and transmission scheme; The concrete structure of parts of the welding robot is designed and the virtual assembly of the welding robot is completed by Pro/E; By calculating, it completed the model selection of motor, reducer, synchronous belt and so on.Secondly, the welding robot is simulated and analyzed by ADAMS and ANSYS. In dynamics simulation of simple working condition, the relationship between the drive and joint movement is analyzed, and then the peak torque of robot joints is solved through a path search method. According to the results, we check the motors. The finite element method is applied to the static simulation and analysis of the base arm by ANSYS Workbench, and then the base arm structure is improved by topology optimization.Finally, the welding robot prototype is made. The detail drawings and assembly drawings of welding robot is drawn by CAD software. According to the analysis of manufacturing process under the condition of one production, we decided to process and manufacture the complex parts of welding robot by welding.
