Traditional Mach Zehnder structure plays an important role in phase modulation and sensing, but shortcomings are low modulation efficiency and high detection limit. A novel Mach Zehnder (MZ) structure was proposed in this paper, it has obvious advantages in the fields of phase modulation and sensing. The output phase Mach Zehnder microring resonator can completely satisfy the requirements of differential phase shift keying when the phase change of the sensitive ring is0.1π, and achieving efficient coupling phase modulation. If changing the structure parameters of Mach Zehnder microring appropriately, the chirp problem of modulation will be further reduced, and the structure’s Fano-line with low detection limit can also be used to detect extremely small quantities of substance.Establishing on the basis of the theoretical model of the Mach Zehnder microring resonator, the model was analyzed in this paper, the main work has done as follows:(1) Based on the Mach zed microring resonator structure, the Mach Zehnder microring resonator theory model of phase modulator was presented. (2)The results of research and analysis of the new model show that, only0.1π phase change can meet the requirements of the differential phase shift keying.(3) Analyzing a novel structure of Mach-Zehnder microring resonator with feedback, the output phase of the structure can strictly meet the requirements of the phase change of the differential phase shift keying. The signal chirp problem was solved, and a theoretical basis was provided for establishing a stable modulator.(4)Studying the relationship between the Mach-Zehnder microring resonator light intensity and the effective refractive index, the detective limit can be up to10-9refractive index units, it has decreased one order of magnitude than reported.
