With the development of science and technology, detecting standards arebecoming more and more strict. Holes are relatively common in themechanical parts and the testing requires more stringent, so detection of holesis more difficult. This paper summarizes the methods of previous detection ofholes, puts forward the method of optical fiber sensor tilt measuring holescircularity error, and completes the following main contents.First, according to the methods of detecting holes in recent years,RIM-FOS is proposed to detect holes.Second, the method of optical fiber sensor tilt measuring is proposed tosolve the limited space inside the hole when measuring. Working principles ofthe sensor, the detection process and calibration methods are outlined. Thestructure of optical fiber sensor probe was analyzed.Third, methods of holes circularity error assessment are summarized. Amathematical model is established by the least squares method to assess thecircularity error.Fourth, the mathematical models of the two different structures wereestablished and the simulation results of the RIM-FOS characteristicparameters were computed. Impacts of structural parameters, reflector shapeand inclination angle on the intensity modulation function were analyzed.Two kinds of optical fiber structures were compared to verify the advantagesof the structure of three fibers.Finally, experiments are done by fiber optic sensing instrument, theexperimental data is record to plot the characteristic curves, and thesimulation results are verified.
