Before people use computer to make animations, all the jobs have to be done manually.24FPS leads to enormous amounts of frames in an animation, so it takes creators a lot of time to finish the animation frame by frame.Nowadays, the application of computer technology in animation has shortened the time to make it. Computer, as a powerful tool to play a role in animation, is just newly sprouted in terms of time.In developed countries, the extensive application of computer technology in animation, has promoted the animation industry into a fresh stage. Particularly, the application of digital technology in the US has become mature. At present, there are all kinds of softwares to make2D and3D animations or to synthesize videos. Those softwares are well functioned and compatible, and can be operated in all platforms. Thanks to the mature application of computer technology in animation making, no matter Japanese2D animations or American3D animations have attracted the eyes of animation fans around the world. In2011, the American hit animated film Toy Story3had a box office record of$1.063billion. Thus, we can see that computer-animated film has brought with huge economic benefits.Due to the shock from foreign market and the limitations of domestic market, Chinese animation industry is facing an embarrassment. Chinese animation has always been weak in the international market, but it has great potential. Only by deeply working on the animation technology and applying the new idea and skill in practice, can China’s national animations be prosperous. The combination of computer animation and traditional animation will be one of the trends in the future. This combination averts each others’shortcomings, which is to say that computer and hands are complementary.I have been teaching animation for years. After long term of practice, I have realized the importance of computer technology in making animations. This paper focuses on the computer-animated technology from application perspective and it also gives a rational conclusion on the future trends of computer animation by using original cases in reality.
