The rapid development of internet technology and the growing popularity ofwireless network put forward higher requirements on the network service quality.Transport layer is at the hub of the network protocol, has a direct impact on theapplications. In the design of traditional TCP protocol does not adequately take thepotential network problems into account, so the improvement and extension of TCP iscumbersome. In order to solve the problem, in2000, the IETF organization putforward a new generation of reliable transport layer protocol, Stream ControlTransmission Protocol (SCTP). SCTP has characteristics different from TCP, such asMulti-homing and Multi-streaming, and has good scalability. It is considered toreplace TCP to be the common transport layer protocol of next generation.Firstly, this paper describes and analyzes SCTP protocol packet format, basicfeatures and basic functions; secondly, comparing the performance of SCTP, TCP andUDP protocol; then introduces new mechanisms which are extended on the basis ofSCTP. Including concurrent multipath transfer (SCTP-CMT), partial reliability(PR-SCTP) and mobility transfer (M-SCTP). Detailed analysis three key algorithmswhich are put forward to improve the transmission efficiency of SCTP-CMT, the threekey algorithms are SFR, CUC and DAC.Based on the analysis, this paper takes the vehicle network environment toresearch the SCTP performance in wireless network. Analyzed and compared theperformance of TCP, SCTP and SCTP-CMT in the NS2network simulation platform.Simulation results show that, when the terminal has a variety of network access, theperformance of SCTP-CMT is superior to SCTP and TCP. Therefore, SCTP-CMT hasbetter performance than SCTP and TCP while in wireless vehicle networkenvironment. At the end of the article, to improve SCTP-CMT performance in wireless vehiclenetwork environment, this paper analyzes the SCTP-CMT and points out thedeficiencies when applied to the vehicle network environment. This article proposedan improved algorithm, based on binomial congestion control, to solve the problemscaused by wireless signal error. This article modifies the NS2code, establishes thesimulation topology and does the experiment by the NS2simulation platform. Thesimulation results show that, the improved protocol can effectively distinguish thewireless error and congestion in wireless network environment, has improvedperformance over previous.
