With the rapid development of digital signal processing technology and computernetwork technology, the performance of error detection and error correction of channel codingand decoding technology plays more important role in the communication systems. Signalmay be influenced by extrinsic noise factors during transmission, leading to the inconsistencebetween the transmitted signal and the received signal, which results in distortion or failure ofthe communication. Channel encoding and decoding techniques can alleviate this problem, which enables communication signals dependent to form the internal constraints by addingredundant information, in order to improve the capability of the signal against to theinterference. The simplicity of channel encoding techniques, the efficiency and the speed ofdecoding algorithm are important factors to affect error detection, error correctionperformance. Therefore, to improve the reliability of the communication system, the researchon channel encoding and decoding technology is essential. In this paper, the common channel encoding and decoding technology are analyzed, andconvolutional codes, Turbo codes and LDPC codes are focused on. The basic principle anddecoding algorithm of several kinds of encoding and decoding technologies are analyzed aswell as the application in communication systems. Their performances are evaluated bysimulation which aims to explore the influence of various factors, such as the number ofiterative and the code length, and decoding algorithms. And similar work is done with LDPCcodes. Furthermore, LDPC codes and Turbo codes in both performance and complexityaspects are compared, and their advantages and disadvantages are obtained, which provide thetheoretical basis for the application of those two codes. The novel methods are proposedrespectively to improve the component code of Turbo codes and the construction of LDPCcodes’ check matrix, which efficiently ameliorate the error-correcting performance of the twooriginal codes.
