A large number of3D models are created and available on the Web, since more and more3D modelling and digitizing tools are developed for ever increasing applications. The techniques for content-based3D model retrieval then become necessary. In this paper, a content-based3D model retrieval system is proposed.The main idea of this system is that two3D models are similar, if they look similar from all viewing angles. The system is composed of6modules, respectively is the model-base management module, user interface module, features extraction module, data mining module, web proxy module and index management module. Modelbase management module handle the add or remove modelbase. User interface module handle human-computer interaction. Features extraction module handle extract model features. data mining module handle analysis data. Web Proxy module handle gets or sets data. Index management module retrieve model by index. The author has designed and implemented the first five modules.The3D model retrieval system selected model feature include Zernike moment, Fourier feature, eccentricity feature and SIFT(Scale Invariant Feature Transform) feature and it has good performance in the face of interference or noise. The results of experiments demonstrated that the system can meet the needs of users.
