China’s urbanization process and the corresponding urban construction, has brought the growth of wealth in China’s urban cities,and a huge change in social, economic, cultural and many other aspects in urban space.City,as a combinationin of the nature and the creation of man, is a kind of material existence, also a kind of cultural existence.Today, the relationship between traditional culture and foreign culture is ambiguous, it’s difficult to weigh the occasion, cultural rules inevitably changed.Based on regarding the economy as the premise, the capital value of culture were exhumed. When the city does not rely on traditional techniques and production resources so much,the significance of culture becomes more important, then becomes a powerful tool in the development of the city.This paper takes the ancient town of Yi nationality of Chuxiong in Yunnan as the research object, starting from three aspects-space concept, symbol and significance.lt tries to compare the new culture of Yi nationality with the old culture of Yi nationality in this ancient town so as to further know about what the new cultural symbol construction and consumption process of Yi nationality is, and how the order of culture and power is embodied. By describing the evolution of cultural symbol of Yi nationality in the ancient town of Yi nationality, based on the subject characteristics of communication, this paper combines space theory with perspectives of symbol and power and makes use of the paradigm of anthropological studies so as to achieve the purpose of deeper exploring the power mechanism behind the reconstruction of national cultural symbol. In the end, through the research, a conclusion is made that the reconstruction of national culture symbol received power interference from "the holder of culture" and "the pursuer of economic benefit". The author believes such exploration is of certain theoretical and practical significance for keeping a sober judgment in understanding modernization development, urban progress and cultural transmission.
