Wireless networks will contain a variety of wireless access technologies in thefutureļ¼Œ these different networks with overlapping area are called heterogeneousnetworks (Hetnets). As one of the key technologies of heterogeneous wireless networks,load balancing is a significant method to achieve the effective resource utilization,enlarge system capacity, and avoid network congestion. This thesis mainly studies loadbalancing algorithm in heterogeneous wireless networks. First, the heterogeneouswireless network architecture is briefly introduced and three architectures of joint radioresource management are discussed. Second, based on the current research of loadbalancing algorithm in heterogeneous networks, a load balancing algorithm based onutility functions and fuzzy logic is discussed, the algorithm combined three utilityfunctions with fuzzy logic method to complete load balancing. Simulation results showthat the fuzzy logic load balancing algorithm performs much better than the algorithmwithout load balancing and MLB algorithm with respect to the system blockingprobability, average transmission time and network load rate. Third, because of thediversity of services in heterogeneous networks, in order to achieve load uniformdistribution, as well as to ensure the quality of services, QoS-Aware balancing algorithmis discussed. After the simulation, it is proved that the QoS-Aware algorithm has asignificant increase in network performance compared with other algorithms.
