Recently wireless sensor networks have been widely used in large-scale datagathering applications for its low price and low power. With the increasment of theapplications, some problems have appeared as well.In a large-scale wireless sensornetwork, some problems like channel interference and unbalanced load, lower theperformence of wireless sensor networks. Therefore, how to apply multi-channelcommunication and how to balance load among sensors, become an important issue inwireless sensor networks.Based on some deep research and experiments, this paper confirmed theinterference between802.15.4channels and the interference between802.15.4andother802.15.4channels and other channels. According to rigorous theoretical analysis, this paper proposed a concept of interference value. With the concept of interference, this paper proposed a mulit-channel communication protocol for wireless sensornetworks. With the principle of reducing the interference, this protocol divides ansingle-channel sensor network into serveral subnets, each working on a differentchannel, greatly reduced the interference in single-channel communication. After theoptimization on the channel level, this paper proposed a routing algorithm aimed atload balance. This algorithm builds an load-balance routing tree rooting to sink nodeon each channel, then All upstream data transmission in the network will be inaccordance with the direction of the routing tree, effectively balanced the load betweensensor nodes. In the end, this paper proposed some experiments to confirm theperformance of the protocol and the algorithm. After the optimization of channel and load-balance,channel interference will bereduced, the load between sensors will be more balanced and the performance ofsensor networks will be greatly improved.
