Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a detection method using high frequency radio waves to determine the distribution of the internal material. Ultra-wideband (UWB) radar is defined as the radar whose relative work bandwidth is greater than or equal to20%of its center frequency. Ultra wideband GPR is operated by combining with the characteristics of ultra-wideband radar and the GPR. The aim of our study is to carry out the whole system of ultra wideband ground penetrating radar (GPR). This radar is widely used in both military and civilian work.First, we introduce the concept of ground-penetrating radar and trends.Secondly,we describe the overall design of ultra-wideband ground penetrating radar system. Our study is divided into here parts as follows:1.The design of ultra-wideband radar antenna is performed:by using the three-dimensional simulation software HFSS selecting the shape and size, and designing circularly polarized Archimedean spiral antenna which achieve a peak voltage of1.76V, a pulse width of1.432ns bipolar pulse as transmitter and receiver.2.Ultra-wideband radar circuit designing includes using triode MRF5812as a core to produce bipolar transistor pulse as the transmitted pulse; Ultra-wideband radar use TDC chip to determine the target distance. The time delay circuit, limiter circuit and integral amplifier circuit are used to process signals. Finally the signals will be input into the controller MSP430to be displayed.3.Ultra-wideband radar software design includes generating trigger pulses and controlling delay chip AD9501and TDC.Finally, we introduces installation and debugging of the ultra wideband GPR system, including the debugging of its launching and receiving circuit.
