With the increasing social demand and the rapid development of science and technology,manufacturing of increasing competition, the production rate of survival largely become abusiness critical, therefore, an urgent need for a way to quickly create product technology wasborn.3D printing as a rapid prototyping technology, has been widely developed in recentyears for its production of high precision, short cycle, enabling personalized production, thecost is relatively low, and a growing subject including medical, industrial areas as well asindividual users of all ages. At present, the researches of3D printing focused on the study ofthree-dimensional printing technology and molding material, and it is little respect for thestudy of three-dimensional color printing based on UV inks.3D printing is a kind of three-dimensional printing rapid prototyping technologies. Firstly,the classifications of three-dimensional printing rapid prototyping were introduced in thispaper, including stereo lithography apparatus, laminated object manufacturing, fuseddeposition modeling, selective laser sintering and3D printing, and its working principle,characteristics and application were summarized. Then, the3D printing processes wereintroduced, the three-dimensional modeling, the hierarchical processing of three-dimensionalmodel, the choice of molding material and3D printer system were organized. The hierarchicalprocessing of three-dimensional model and molding material were changed in this paper,according to the characteristics of the topography and the advantages of UV ink can beinstantly curing.3D topographic map of color printing was completed, by the UJF-3024ink-jet printer, through designing printing mode.The molding materials of3D printing were changed into UV inks in this paper, based onthe concept and principle of3D printing, the printing were completed by the UJF-3024ink-jetprinter. The relationship between the ink thickness and printing layers was found through theexperiments, and the printing layers had a great influence on the ink color reproduction. The3D printing layer thickness and color printing solutions were determined, according to theresults of experiments. The hierarchical data of3D printing were got by the way of getting contours in this paper, based on the characteristics of DEM data model. The3D colorprintings were completed based on UV inks. The solutions of printing quality problems (suchas terrace phenomenon is serious, height error, and etc.) were proposed, the color gamut rangeand the properties (such as roughness of line, width, and etc.) of printing were studied, andthis provided a good method of quality control to topographic map color3D printing.
