Although automatic assembly technology is more and more widely applied in thelabor-intensive manufacturing industries, the automatic assembly device of cavity filter is stillblank in China, due to the complexity of cavity filter’s assembly process. And the filter tuningis particularly complex. With the rapid development of wireless communication systemstechnology, including ship communications, satellite communications, relay communications,microwave communications, radar systems, remote telemetry and so forth, the market demandfor cavity filter is getting intense, and production requirements also increase constantly.Therefore, it is necessary to research on the cavity filter automatic assembly technology andto design such an automatic assembly device.Firstly, based on functional requirements and technical specifications of the cavity filterautomatic assembly technology, the automatic feeding, automatic transmission system andautomatic execution system are studied successively. Through the analysis of influencingfactors of automatic feeding, including components’s shape characteristics and their postureattributes, the automatic feeding and the automatic transfer are studied to determine theoverall automatic feeding technology. And then, the assembly part automatic discharge isexplored. Two aspects on the coverplate’s general-clamping and mobile location of automaticsystems are conducted. Finally, both technical solutions and relevant parameters aredetermined. After the comparison of two schemes of automatic execution system, a bettertechnical route is got.And then, critical issues of the cavity filter automatic assembly technology are studied.problems like optimal trajectory of several specifications debugging screws when slidingdown, the best motion state of locknuts using the electromagnetic vibration and its optimaldesign parameters are respectively explored. A multifunctional manipulator scheme and itscontrol mechanism are mentioned. Consequently, automatic debugging and assemblyintegration technology are finally achieved.Finally, modular design of mechanical system is done for the cavity filter automaticassembly device. Mechanical structures of each sub-module, includeing feeding module, transmission module, mobile fixture module and executive module, are finalised by somedesign and calculation, simulation and analysis of key parts, reliability test etc. And then thewhole machine model is designed. Furthermore, a physical prototype is completed in the end.This paper has system research on the cavity filter automatic assembly technology. Andits application in automatic equipment, developing from scratch in China, is the greatbreakthrough and progress for China’s filter manufacturing. This achievement is helpful tosolve problems of poor product consistency, low productivity and high labor costs existing inthe traditional assembly method. It provides a good reference value and guiding significanceto further our goals of the cavity filter’s production automation.
