Real-time systems is an information system that has the ability of providing arequired level of service in a bounded response time, and provides the basis runningsupport environment for specific real-time applications. Its real-time performancelargely determine the performance of specific applications. For many real-time systems, many manufacturers test their performance, because of the different real-timeperformance testing methods that make it difficult to compare these data to cross. Thus, the research of real-time performance test methods, design and implementation of aneffective testing program to evaluation of real-time system have a very importantpractical significance. This paper introduces the basic concepts, characteristics and classification ofreal-time operating systems, elaborating on Linux real-time systems and real-timepreemption patch. Through the research on Linux real-time system with increasing thereal-time preemption patch, analyzing of the real-time characteristics of real-timesystems, the factors affecting real time of real-time systems, and real-time performanceof key performance evaluation indicators. And then the research on real-time systemperformance evaluation method that named measurement and benchmarks. Design andimplement a test method named program instrumentation, that by loading the testprogram on the target system, with this program in key segments of code to detect therunning system to get important information to complete real-time system performanceevaluation on the target system. Finally, do the comparison test of the interruptresponse time and context switch time as the most important criteria between LinuxSystem and standard Linux System based on the Numerical Control System platform. The results proved that the Linux real-time system has basically reached the hardreal-time system requirements, while the testing methods of program instrumentationis proved to be correct and feasible.
