In the information age, people can easily get the needed digital resources from theInternet. Since the binary image is simply structured and easily to be stored, a lot ofdigital documents are saved as binary images, for example, the TIFF images. Digitalwatermarking is usually employed to protect the binary images’content from beingmodified, forged, or used illegally. Recently, most of the information hiding is for thegrayscale and color images, while binary images are seldom taken into account. Thismaybe because that the information hiding algorithm in binary image is more difficultto design due to its simple monotonous content. Therefore, it is necessary to study thebinary image information hiding. The purpose of digital watermarking is make the important information hided intothe carrier can’t be identified easily. It has three basic characteristics called embeddedcontent, robustness and imperceptibility, which influence and restrict each other. Inthis paper, we design a method to embed the information into binary image using theedge model after studying the edge character of binary image, which can be used toidentify and protect the copyright of binary document image. In order to make full useof the inside edge and outside edge and some special edge model, this paper design amore effective edge segmentation searching method. After analyzing the changingvalue of difference matrix, this paper design robustness for the binary image edgewatermarking algorithm, including rotation and noise recovery. This paper also putsforward several strategies to improve the watermark images’ imperceptibility underthe condition of that the binary image has enough embedding capacity, which can keep the visual quality of binary images better.According to the experiment result, the watermarking algorithm of this paper canbe used for the common binary images successfully. The processed watermarkingimage can be corrected at any angle, and can be better recovered below5percentnoise density. At last, this paper also puts the watermarking algorithm with robustnessinto the use of specific copyright protection.
