Combining the application background of terahertz, there are some researches onelectromagnetic scattering characteristics of calibration object in this paper throughtheoretical calculation and simulation in order to reveal the influencing factor.We get theTHz band radar cross section from the metal balls of different surface material propertiesthrough experiment to deduce the relationship of electromagnetic scattering characteristicsof scaling body and the target surface material properties, and to reveal the influencingfactor of RCS. This paper can be cornerstone of further research due to massive statisticsand analysis.In the paper,we introduce a three-dimensional full-wave electromagnetic field analysissoftware FEKO and some main algorithms: moment of method, multilevel fast multipolemethod and physical optics method. By comparing their advantages and disadvantages, wechoose the most appropriate method for this project, and this lay the theoretical and selectedfoundation for later study. Besides, we introduce the classification of machining errors andthe calculation method of RCS to determine the modeling and simulation programmes inthe project. The research content in this paper mainly includes:1、According to the possible machining error, we use FEKO to build model as ellipsoidsphere and ellipsoid sphere with hollow to calculate RCS and analyze the effect of the axialratio of ellipsoid sphere, the width,depth, and number of the hollow, and to explore theeffects of incident plane wave direction on the above parameters.2、Based on the vulnerable oxidation characteristics of aluminum metal ball, simulateit with coating paint and alumina respectively, and then analyze the influence of coatingthickness, relative dielectric constant and the loss tangent of RCS.3、According to the property of THz wave, we test the electromagnetic scatteringcharacteristics of six different surface materials of metal ball and test the Ka band ascomparison, then analyze the surface roughness and frequency, covered relative blank inthe field and lay solid foundation for research work in the future.
