The further the target is from the IRST, the smaller area the target imaged andthe weaker the target`s signal will be, and the target maybe submerged into thebackground, which will bring difficulties to target detection and track. As present,detecting and tracking weak and small target steadily under complex backgroundhas become one of the forefront high-tech and highly difficult techniques. Researchon infrared weak and small target background suppression in detection technologyunder complex backgrounds has practical implication.In this paper, background suppression solution in target detecting and trackingis one of the main researches. Based on the prior studies, the method of improvingbackground suppression is the research area which majored in the article.In this paper, the features of infrared image is discussed, the imaging model ofinfrared weak and small target was infered, and regular background suppressionalgorithms are studied and analyzed. And the soft mathematical morphologybackground suppression algorithm was studied deeply and carried out forexperiments. In summary, the main works are as follows:In the field of building the image model of infrared targets, the background ofthe infrared image, the noise and the imaging feature of target was analised based onthe infrared system structure and information processing flow, which provides abasis of imaging of infrared weak target.In the field of background suppression algorithms of infrared images with smalltargets, regular background suppression algorithms were analyszd. During conductquantitative express to infrared weak target through imaging model, the researchfoundation was provided for the following background suppression algorithms.In the field of the innovation of morphology algorithms, the classicalbackground algorithms was analysed. The complexed cloud background suppressionwas studied by using mathematical morphology. Firstly, the calssical mathematicalmorphology and the soft mathematical morphology algorithm was studied andanalysed. And the soft mathematical algorithm was designed and improved. Theperformance of these algorithms were discussedin this paper, and as the experimentshows, algorithm designed in this paper has a good application prospect.
