It works by receiving scenery'infrared radiation passively in infrared imaging technology . It has such advantages as long operating range,convenience for hiding, and ability to work double tides,a kind of weapon system based on infrared detection becomes one of the key studying and developing projects in various countries. As for the real weapon systems,how to make the best of IR target detection techniques to improve the ability of target detection and to obtain the related information about the improve the ability of target detection and to obtain the related information about the invading targets, have important significance for improvement of the real weapon systems. Therefore, the detection and tracking of infrared target under complex background are challenging research topics, and in-depth study of them has crucial theory meaning and practical values.In this paper, firstly several normal methods for the small target are studied. We find that these methods are not fit for the small target under Complex background. The authors presented a small-target detection/identification algorithm of infrared gray images based on mathematical morphology. Experiments show that the algorithm can greatly improve the SNR of the target, reject background and noise interference, retain the useful gray information of target,satisfy real-time requirement of the system. It is an effective small-target detection algorithm of infrared gray image.
