This research aims to guarantee the safety and stability of LonWorks network devices applied inPower Line Communication (PLC). In consideration of the tough working environment, numerousworking parameters involved, and the complex control methods of LonWorks network devices, theresearch proposes a method to realize a gateway, which consists of embedded MCU, power line smarttransceiver, and Ethernet chip to satisfy the need of local intelligent control and remote monitoring.The conventional method to realize a Gateway is to use16-bit microcontroller as main controller.As we know,16-bit microcontroller could not be applied to multi-task, real-time, and high-speedenvironment due to its low processing speed and small storage space. This research aims to design asmart embedded-gateway, which is applicable to complicated environment.This gateway uses PL3150power line smart transceiver as the interface to LonWorks network, and LPC1778MCU with Ethernetmodule as the interface to Ethernet network. In addition,dual-port RAM is used as a high-speed datatransmission medium between PL3150and LPC1778. This thesis introduces the hardware design ofPL3150module,ARM module, Ethernet module, and the peripheral circuits of these three modules.LPC1778’s embedded Ethernet controller is used to construct a Web server with μC/OS-IIoperating system and LwIP protocol. This thesis will introduce the structure of μC/OS-II and explainhow to transplant μC/OS-II to LPC1778in details. In order to connect to Internet, communicationprotocol and device driver are also essential. LwIP as a light TCP/IP protocol provides some basicnetwork services. And the ethernet device driver can receive and send Ethernet frame by reading orwriting the registors of Ethernet chip. μC/OS-II and LwIP realize a remote monitor soft platform, sothat some application programs are designed to monitor and control the status of nodes on LonWorksremotely.Finally, all of the works have been tested and emulated, including the availability of the gatewaysystem and the stability of the transmition.
