As more and more short-wave radio users, as well as the continuous development ofhostile interference, spectrum scarce resources and the efficiency of spectrum managementwill become the bottleneck of short-wave communication technology. Cognitive Radio(CR) has recently been to dramatically improve spectrum utilization, thus supporting morenew services, which is a new technological approach to provide further development ofshort-wave communication.Start from cognitive radio technology and short-wave communication theory, wefirstly describe the definition, characteristics, key technologies, research status of CR.Moreover, the transmission mode and basic characteristics of short-wave communicationare also described. These will lead to the importance of spectrum sensing technology in theshort-wave communication. The major contribution can be summarized as follow.Firstly, system design theories of spectrum sensing in short-wave communication areinvestigated. To analyze the spectrum sensing algorithms, the energy detection algorithm isthe most suitable algorithm and can implement in the short-wave communication. Energydetection is a power spectrum estimation based on FFT, we study spectrum sensingalgorithms while implementing FFT. The description of the analog signal sampling theory,the improved short-wave receiver architecture for the short-wave spectrum sensing systemis designed, and corresponding design modules are theoretically analyzed.Secondly, the architecture of the system platform is designed. The mainly contentsconsist of short-wave receiver front-end architecture design, sampling rate selection anddigital signal processing module architecture design. Here, the short-wave receiverfront-end architecture design includes: short-wave pre-selected filter, low noise amplifiers,multi-channel narrow-band electrical tunable filter, AGC and IF amplifier. Matlab softwareis adopted to do the theoretical simulation, and analysis of simulation results are verifiedthe design feasibility.Thirdly, we carry out the hardware static debugging and experimental tests of theshort-wave receiver front-end modules. The implement of energy detection algorithm iscompleted by algorithm software debugging. Analysis of experimental results, it is shownthat the design can be achieved the spectrum sensing function in the short-wave band.
