Along with the rapid development on IPTV and interactive multimedia service, TDM-PON cannot satisfy the requirement of bandwidth of multi-service access network. WDM-PON use WDMA (Wavelength Division Multiple Access) to share transmission media between users. Compared with TDM-PON, WDM-PON exhibits higher access bandwidth, longer distance, more safe on ONU, better compatibility on protocol and flexibility on upgrading. However, the advantage of WDM-PON should be illustrated to operators and users through delivering multi-service. Up till now, there are not commercial applications or unified standard on WDM-PON. And few studies have paid any attention to how realizing multicast on WDM-PON. This paper will fill the gap on it. The research of multicast delivery on WDM-PON is divided into the flowing parts:(1) Software and hardware platform of WDM-PONAs a next generation technology of optical access network, forwarding capacity will increase manyfold. Because of lacking on commercial application and standardization, there are many solutions in some key techniques of the system. In order to provide a stable and low cost platform to multi-service access network, the paper needs to select the best solution of software and hardware platform.(2) Key techniques about multicast delivery on WDM-PONIn order to satify the new service requirements, service convergence and uniform transmission is an important characteristic of WDM-PON. The paper need to discuss the confluence method of multi-service and key techniques on Multicast Delivery.(3) Method of multicast realization on WDM-PONIPTV is the most important service in broadband access network; it utilizes IP multicast technology to copy and forward data. Different from TDM-PON, the ODN topology of WDM-PON is point-to-point. The topology has effect on multicast forwarding. So it needs to be researched. (4) Method of testing multicast on WDM-PONTo accelerate the speed of R&D, improve the quality of products, ensure the performances on service and operating, it is necessary to test the WDM-PON system. Paper need to study the method of multicast test on WDM-PON. Then, validate multicast efficiency and reliability of WDM-PON.
