A Study On Young College Teachers’ Living Conditions

In 1999, the strategy of higher education popularization was carried out in our country. Since then, a large number of young teachers enrich to the teacher troops in higher education institution. According to China’s ministry of education figures show, by the end of 2010, young teachers under the age of 40 in colleges and universities were more than 860,000,which accounts for 63.3% of all full-time teachers in institutions of higher education. They are not only the dominant force in teaching, but also a new force for scientific research in colleges and universities. Compared with other teachers, however, young college teachers’ survival pressure is particularly outstanding. The focus on the living conditions of this large group of young teachers in colleges and universities is not only beneficial to improve the quality of teaching and scientific research in colleges and universities, but also can promote the long-term development of higher education.Taking S university in the western area as an example, this study adopts the methods of questionnaire and interview to investigate the young college teachers’ current living conditions, analyzes the main facts that affect their survivals from the aspects of society, colleges and personage, and on this basis puts forward some relevant countermeasures to improve the survival conditions of young college teachers, in order to draw the public’s attention to this vulnerable group and prompt the government and higher education departments to publish relevant policies and regulations, which finally improve young college teachers’ quality of life and working environment and push their professional development.The paper includes four parts: Chapter one states the significance, content and research technique of young college teachers’ survival study, summarizes the domestic and foreign research results, and also defines the core concepts of this study; Chapter two presents three-dimensionally the overall living conditions of young college teachers, including the states of life, work and career development, which is based on the analysis of survey results; Chapter three elaborates the influencing factors of young college teachers from three points of society, institutions of higher education and personage, which is based on the survey; Chapter four puts forward some corresponding countermeasures and proposals to improve the living conditions of young college teachers, respectively from the aspects of society, institutions of higher education and individuals.
